The Institute is backed by best of the medical infrastructure & medical faculty.

Nephrology department is an academic Excellence centre recognized by National Board of Examination for training for DNB Nephrology students. 6 post MD students are getting training for DNB Nephrology in the department.

Diseases that our Nephro sciences experts treat:

  • Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD): Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a long-term condition where kidneys gradually lose function, leading to waste buildup It may progress to kidney failure.
  • Acute Kidney Injury (AKI): Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) is a sudden, rapid decline in kidney function, often due to factors like dehydration, infection, or medication. Prompt treatment is crucial to prevent complications and support kidney recovery.
  • Glomerular Diseases: Glomerular diseases encompass a range of kidney conditions affecting glomeruli, vital for filtration. They lead to proteinuria, swelling, and potential kidney failure. Causes vary, including immune disorders and infections.
  • UTI: A Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is a bacterial infection in the urinary system, causing symptoms like frequent urination, pain, and cloudy urine.
  • Diabetic Nephropathy: Diabetic Nephropathy is kidney damage caused by diabetes. It arises from prolonged high blood sugar levels, leading to kidney dysfunction. Early intervention with blood sugar control and medication is crucial.

Top Nephrology procedures performed at Sri Balaji Action Medical Institute:

  • Hemodialysis: Hemodialysis is a medical procedure for individuals with kidney failure. It involves using a machine to filter waste and excess fluids from the blood, replicating kidney function. This treatment is typically performed several times a week to maintain health. The Hemodialysis services are available round the clock for 24 hours at the institute.
  • Hemodiafiltration: Hemodiafiltration (HDF) is an advanced form of renal replacement therapy that combines hemodialysis and hemofiltration. It provides more efficient removal of toxins and offers potential benefits for patients with kidney failure. The Hemodiafiltration services are available round the clock for 24 hours at the institute.
  • Kidney Transplantation: Kidney transplantation is a surgical procedure where a healthy kidney from a living or deceased donor is implanted into a recipient with kidney failure. It offers a chance for improved quality of life and reduced reliance on dialysis.
  • Kidney Biopsy: A kidney biopsy is a procedure where a small piece of kidney tissue is removed for examination. It aids in diagnosing kidney conditions like glomerulonephritis or evaluating transplant viability.
  • Critical Care Nephrology with CRRT & SLED: Critical Care Nephrology with CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy) and SLED (Sustained Low-Efficiency Dialysis) refers to a specialized field within nephrology (kidney medicine) that focuses on providing advanced renal support for critically ill patients. CRRT and SLED are techniques used to provide continuous or prolonged dialysis for patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) who have acute kidney injury or other severe kidney conditions. These therapies help in managing fluid balance, electrolyte levels, and removing waste products from the body in a controlled and sustained manner, which is crucial for patients with compromised kidney function.
  • AV Fistula Formation: AV (Arteriovenous) Fistula Formation is a surgical procedure creating a direct connection between an artery and a vein. This promotes increased blood flow, strengthening veins for hemodialysis in patients with kidney failure. It's the preferred access for long-term dialysis, offering improved effectiveness and lower complications compared to other methods.
  • Permacath Insertion: Permacath insertion is a medical procedure involving the placement of a long-term central venous catheter. It's typically done in patients requiring frequent or prolonged access to their bloodstream, such as for dialysis or chemotherapy. The Permacath provides a reliable conduit for medical treatments, reducing the need for repeated needle insertions.
  • CAPD: Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) is a home-based treatment for kidney failure. It involves regular infusion of dialysis fluid into the abdomen through a catheter, allowing waste removal. Unlike hemodialysis, CAPD doesn't require a machine, offering more flexibility to patients for a better quality of life.
  • Emergency Services 24x7: The 24x7 emergency services exemplify the institute's dedication to delivering timely and life-saving interventions, providing a crucial lifeline for patients in distress while upholding the highest standards of medical care and compassion.

At Sri Balaji Action Medical Institute, we prioritize patient-centered care and education. Our dedicated nephrology team provides comprehensive education on kidney health, including dietary recommendations, medication management, and lifestyle modifications. We work closely with patients to empower them with the knowledge and tools they need to actively participate in their own kidney care.

FAQ

Nephrology is a medical specialty that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of kidney-related conditions. Nephrologists are trained to manage kidney diseases, kidney transplantation, and disorders of fluid and electrolyte balance.

Common kidney diseases include chronic kidney disease (CKD), kidney stones, glomerulonephritis, polycystic kidney disease (PKD), acute kidney injury (AKI), and diabetic nephropathy. Each of these conditions affects the kidneys in different ways and may require specific treatments.

Kidney stones form when certain substances in the urine (such as calcium, oxalate, and uric acid) become concentrated and crystallize. Various factors, including genetics, diet, dehydration, and certain medical conditions, can contribute to kidney stone formation.

Risk factors for CKD include high blood pressure, diabetes, family history of kidney disease, smoking, obesity, and certain autoimmune conditions. Aging also increases the risk of developing CKD.

Dialysis and kidney transplantation becomes necessary when kidney function declines to a point where the kidneys can no longer effectively remove waste and excess fluids from the body. Dialysis serves as an artificial replacement for kidney function, while transplantation involves replacing a damaged kidney with a healthy one from a donor.
